- 1). Attach a sound-deadening material to the inside of your trunk. There are a variety of materials available for this purpose, ranging from simple adhesive-backed to more complicated barriers which must be applied to bare metal beneath the existing trunk liner.
- 2). Install a prefabricated subwoofer mounting box using brackets. The use of a prefabricated box will greatly ease the installation process. Be sure to securely attach the box with brackets and follow all installation instructions.
- 3). Change the manner in which your amplifier is wired so that the front speakers and rear speakers only use the two front channels.
- 4). Bridge the rear channels of the amplifier. Follow the directions supplied with the amplifier closely here to avoid damage. This will allow the amplifier to double the power supply.
- 5). Using heavy twelve gauge wire, connect the subwoofer to the amplifier keeping in mind there should be a low pass crossover. Once again, follow the manufacturers instructions closely for best performance. There will most likely be some testing involved with this step. Keep in mind that most subwoofers perform best between 80 and 85 Hertz.
- 6). Install the subwoofer to the enclosure making sure all connections are secure, the speakers fit tightly to the enclosure, and the unit is securely attached to the trunk surface.
