How to Change the Code for a 2002 Ford Escape Remote Keyless Entry

    • 1). Enter the car and insert the key in the ignition.

    • 2). Turn the key two clicks, or to the furthest position that will not start the engine. This is the "Run" position.

    • 3). Turn the key back to "Off." This is the position that allows you to remove the key from the ignition.

    • 4). Continue to toggle back and forth until you've turned the key from "Off" to "Run" eight times. This must be done within ten seconds. Repeat the process if the locks don't cycle on and off upon completion.

    • 5). Press a button on the original keyless remote that came with your Ford Escape. The locks will cycle on and off again.

    • 6). Press a button on any new remote that you also want to program to the Ford Escape. The locks will cycle on and off when the remote has been programmed. You can program up to four remotes at a time.

    • 7). Turn the key to the "Off" position and remove it from the ignition.
