- 1). Purchase a bag of dried rosemary, available at most health food stores. Add one handful of rosemary to a pot. Add water until it is 1 inch above the rosemary.
- 2). Heat the mixture on the stove. Simmer for 20 minutes. Do not to let the water boil. Wait until the water becomes dark before taking the pot off the heat.
- 3). Strain the mixture into a bowl. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture. Dab your scalp (not your dreads) and let the mixture dry into it — you don't have to wash it out. Remove leftover dandruff from your dreads by washing your hair and repeating the process, if necessary.
- 4). Avoid future dandruff by shampooing your hair with a brand made specifically for dreadlocks. Find specialty shampoos online at websites such as the Knotty Boy or DreadHead HQ. Shampoos made specifically for dreadlocks clean the scalp and hair without leaving a dandruff-inducing residue.
- 5). Make an appointment with a dermatologist if your dandruff doesn't go away. The problem may be caused by a more serious condition such as fungus, yeast, psoriasis, eczema, Parkinson's disease, diet or even HIV, according to the Medical News Today website.
