- 1). Wash and condition hair with products that are special for your hair type. Hair that is dry or weak will have a different ingredient list than strong, normal hair. Using products tailored to your hair will not only keep hair strong enough to style, but it will also make hair easier to manage.
- 2). Apply a heat protector to towel-dried hair and comb through. Set the dryer on medium heat and dry hair thoroughly. Hold the hair dryer 6 to 8 inches from your hair to avoid overheating your tresses.
- 3). Work a styling gel in your hair and comb through to distribute evenly. The styling gel will make your hair more manageable during the styling process.
- 4). Separate the hair into two sections to create two buns. If your want more buns on top of your head, separate your hair into three or four sections. To separate two sections, use the long end of a comb to part your hair directly down the center. The left side is one section and the right side is the second section. Pull the right hair into a clip. You can also skip parting your hair and just style one bun on top of your head.
- 5). Brush the left hair upward to remove any tangles. Secure the hair with a ponytail holder in the area you want the bun to sit when complete. This is the base of the ponytail and the first bun.
- 6). Hold the end of the ponytail and begin to twist. Once the hair starts to coil downward because of the tightness, start to wrap the hair around the ponytail base. Insert bobby pins to secure the bun to the head. Repeat with the right side.
- 7). Smooth the back of the head so there are no flyaway hairs by applying gel or a straightening balm. Use your hand or a comb to pull it upward. Use bobby pins to secure any hair that's too short or unruly.
- 8). Spray the buns with a light-hold hairspray and shine serum.
