In this difficult economic time it is interesting that one area of business that continues to grow is anything to do with beauty from High Street nail bars to expensive surgical procedures.
Most women and even some men are always going to find the money necessary to visit the local beauty salon as much as possible and the more procedures these salons can offer the better the business.
Some beauty salons are licensed to do Botox treatment but any surgical treatment has to be carried out by qualified doctors.
There is a now a huge business in medical tourism.
Millions of Americans got to Brazil for treatment for everything from liposuction to nose and boob jobs.
Brazil is the busiest country in the world for this type of tourism.
Other places like Turkey and Romania offer fantastic dental deals and as an example, for half a dozen teeth implants the cost in England is roughly a total of seven or eight thousand pounds where in Turkey it is half that cost.
Two visits are usually required but even taking into account the flights and hotel there is still a huge overall saving and at the right time of year some sunshine as well.
There are probably an equal number of these salons as there are hairdressers in any one town or city.
Both these establishments complement one another and a successful young woman these days is likely to attend both on a weekly basis as well as keep toned with regular exercise.
For those successful women who can afford it the next step to keeping fit and good-looking is having a personal trainer.
If these trainers do their job properly the whole person is evaluated before a training program is put in place.
A well thought through diet and a strictly limited alcohol intake is all part of the structure of the individual plan.
Jogging around the park with a trainer pushing you harder is a common sight in towns and cities around the world usually early in the morning or weekends.
The keep fit brigade is such big business that some council are now charging organised groups for the privilege of using the park.
The argument is that if an instructor is running a business whereby he or she is charging a dozen people to practice Yoga, Judo or some similar activity, then they are saving money not having their own gym but using the park instead.
For this reason many types of council have started to charge these groups and some council like Newcastle-upon-Tyne have gone as far as to fence off pay areas just for these groups.
There is serious argument that if people generally take very good care of themselves and keep fit but also not overdo the eating and drinking, then within a hundred years with the advancement of medical science people will be able to live for three or four hundred years.
This sounds incredible but was proposed in a serious medical paper some years ago and nothing looks like changing that possibility.
Within a lifetime we have witnessed the first heart transplant and then lung with heart together and things like kidney transplants are commonplace.
Knees, hips and other joints are also transplanted thousands of times a day and with people already living longer on average the theory is that with even further advancements within one hundred years a person will be living not one hundred years but several hundred.
Beauty salons London may look a lot different in the future but whatever changes occur it is certain they will still be striving.
