- 1). Use hydroxy acids on your face. These naturally occurring acids come in both alpha and beta forms, and encourage skin cell regeneration. As a result, your body will produce new skin cells more quickly to replace your older, damaged skin cells. With regular use, you can prevent new frown lines from forming and improve the appearance of existing lines. Hydroxy acids come in various forms, such as cleansers, serums and lotions.
- 2). Apply anti-wrinkle cream to your eyebrow and forehead areas. Choose an anti-wrinkle cream with copper peptides, an effective ingredient for preventing and reducing wrinkles. Copper peptides stimulate collagen production, helping to stop frown lines.
- 3). Wear sunscreen. The sun's damaging rays can cause and worsen frown lines. Apply sunscreen daily to prevent this damage, regardless of the weather outside. Choose a sunscreen that guards against both UVA and UVB rays. For additional protection, wear a wide-brimmed hat.
- 4). Talk to your dermatologist about Retin-A. Available via a prescription, Retin-A encourages new skin cell and collagen production, helping to improve frown lines. Generally, Retin-A is applied topically to the skin in the form of creams or lotions.
- 5). Consider Botox. Your dermatologist can inject Botox in between your eyebrows to reduce or eliminate your frown lines. Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles there, preventing you from making furrowed expressions. As a result, your skin will appear smoother. The results of Botox are temporary, and you'll need to get injections every 2 to 6 months to maintain them.
- 6). Try chemical peels. Chemicals are applied to burn away the top layers of your skin, revealing younger, less-wrinkled skin below. Chemical peels come in a range of strengths, from light to deep. Ask your dermatologist or skincare professional which strength is appropriate to treat your frown lines.
