- Green tea was originally used in ancient China. In the early 1940s, green tea was first introduced to America from Europe.
- Green tea works for weight loss by boosting metabolism to burn fat. Green tea can also be used in conjunction with caffeine to enhance weight loss.
- Green tea comes in various forms. Other than the tea itself, it also comes in extracts, powders and tablets.
- There is a substance in green tea that is called epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG for short, which is a powerful antioxidant compound.
- Other than weight loss, green tea carries with it some other benefits as well. Some of these include combating high cholesterol, cancer, diabetes, liver disease and atherosclerosis.
- According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, adults should consume 2 to 3 cups of green tea a day or 75 to 100 mg a day in extract form.
- Green tea is not for everyone. If you are pregnant, drink excessive amounts of caffeine, have kidney disease, anxiety, heart problems or ulcers, then you should not take it.
