Kong Active Laser Toy For Cats Review

About.com Rating

I have a total of four cats, although one is very old and can't move around too well anymore. The other three are young enough to exercise, although they can be lazy, too.

Fortunately, toys get my felines moving and help them work off the extra treats they're always begging from me. They like a wide variety of playthings, from wand toys to catnip-stuffed novelties, and laser pointers are a favorite.

Kong is well known for its dog toys, and the company has a line of intriguing cat toys, too. The Kong Active laser toy for cats was a big hit in my household.

Chasing The Red Dot

Laser pointers started out as presentation aids, but they quickly become popular cat toys once pet owners noticed how much their felines loved chasing those little red dots. Pet product companies soon noticed this trend and started making laser pointers meant strictly for cats.

Kong has long manufactured durable, interactive toys for dogs and other animals. They're even durable enough for exotics. and the company also has a line of cat toys, like fun catnip toys that my felines all enjoy.

The company has also added a laser pointer to its product line, the Kong Active laser toy for cats. It's a sturdy device that comes with batteries, and it emits a strong red dot that drives cats crazy.

A Good Laser Toy Option

The Kong Active laser toy for cats is a different shape than most laser toys, which are long and slender. Its size and shape makes it easy to hold, and it throws a very visible dot.

My three younger cats love laser pointers, so I was able to easily make them run all over the family room and stairwell and even climb the walls.

This toy, like other lasers, has the advantage of letting you interact with your cats even when you don't have much energy yourself. Unlike many other types of toys, laser pointers don't require you to make much physical motion. Just aim, press the button, and move your arm in the direction you want your cat to move. Lead Kitty in circles, shine the dot up walls, and do whatever other creative ideas pop into your mind.

Even though the Kong Active laser toy has a good battery life, I opened the battery compartment just to see how difficult it is to access the power source. In the past, I've thrown away laser pointers and purchased new ones rather than mess with battery replacement. It's actually very simple to access and replace the batteries for the Kong toy.

Reasonably Priced

One thing I like about laser pointer cat toys, including the Kong Active version, is that they tend to be reasonably priced. The Kong Active laser cat toy is around $5, making it a cheap way to exercise your felines.

Many other cat toys are reasonably priced, too, but they get chewed up, clawed to bits, or otherwise destroyed. The Kong Active laser toy for cats lasts indefinitely, since your cats can never quite catch that elusive red dot of prey.
