Disney Halloween Costumes for Dogs Review
About.com Rating
I'm a big fan of Halloween pet costumes, and my dog, Bolt, gets the honor of modeling them for me. I'm also a huge Disney fanatic, so I was very excited to get the chance to review some of the Halloween costumes for dogs in the Petsmart Disney costume line.
Petsmart provided two costumes for my review, Nemo and the Cheshire Cat. Those are just two of the offerings in a comprehensive Disney costume line.
Watch Your Sizes
The Cheshire Cat costume was sent to me in the small size, while Nemo was medium. Bolt straddles the line size-wise because he's a Chiweenie, which basically means Chihuahua ears on a long, stubby-legged dachshund body. Thus, medium was the right size for him, although I made him model the Cheshire Cat costume, too.
The costumes are available both online and in Petsmart stores. If your dog is an odd size, I recommend looking at them in person to be sure you get a good fit. Otherwise, it's probably better to order the large size to be safe.
Modeling the Costumes
The Cheshire Cat has a stuffed head, so Bolt immediately thought it was a tug-of-war toy. I finally convinced him that it was model time, not play time, and he reluctantly gave in.
Thankfully, these doggy Halloween costumes are easy to put on and take off, thanks to hook and loop closures for the chest and belly. Since the costume was small for my bulky boy, I only left it on him long enough to get a photo. It was short for his body, but oh so cute.
The Nemo costume was just as easy to put on my pup. It has little holes for your dog's ears, which would have been very cute for Bolt's huge Chihuahua radar-dish appendages if he'd cooperated. Unfortunately, he kept them folded down the entire time I took photos.
Other costumes in this Petsmart product line include Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, and Tigger. You'll find one to suit your pooch's personality, whether she's an outgoing diva or a shy and laid-back pup.
Light and Comfy
Both of the costumes I reviewed were light enough to be comfortable for your dog without restricting his movement or annoying him. Bolt wasn't thrilled with having something on his head in the Nemo costume, but he's a good sport and gave in pretty quickly.
I know that some parts of the country start getting cold around Halloween, but I'm in a climate that stays warm year 'round. I liked the fact that these Disney dog costumes aren't heavy enough to easily make Bolt overheat on a warm day if I leave them on.
The costumes are durable enough for Halloween use, although they're obviously not meant to be everyday wear that gets abused in harsh conditions. Bolt has his t-shirts, jackets, and other everyday wear for that.
While not as elaborate as some of the Petco costumes I've reviewed, like Bolt's taco suit, these adorable Disney costumes will have everyone saying, "Awwwww."
Not all dogs like to wear full costumes, and those picky pets have some options, too, but I think full-body costumes are the cutest.
