How to Compress Old Files on Server 2003

    • 1). Click "Start" followed by "My Computer." Right-click the "C:" drive in the window, and then select "Properties."

    • 2). Click "Disk Cleanup." Wait for the program to calculate the amount of space that can be made available. This will take several minutes.

    • 3). Uncheck all items in the list except "Compress old files."

    • 4). Click "Compress old files" in the list, and then click the "Options" button on the right side of the window. Set the amount of time the files should have been unused for using the arrow buttons in the window.

    • 5). Click "OK" twice. Wait for the compression to complete, which can take up to several hours, depending on the number of files that are being compressed. Repeat this process for any other hard drives located on the computer.
