I have two objectives for my dog, Bolt: to keep him happy and to keep him healthy. The first objective is easy to fulfill. He thrives of petting, treats, toys, and love. The second one takes a little planning, but I'm careful about what I feed him, and I watch the goodies, too. He loves things that can make him pudgy, like bully sticks, so I limit those and steer him towards healthier snacks.

Keeps Dogs Occupied

I got a nice, big sample chew when I was at Global Pet Expo earlier this year. I prefer large sizes because even though Bolt is only 13 pounds, he has the jaws of a much bigger dog. He's a powerful chewer who quickly destroys any toy that's not well made, which is a big reason I prefer durable brands like Go Dog Tough Toys. He also makes short work of most chew treats, so I prefer those that are large enough to keep him occupied for more than a few minutes.

I know it's supposed to be flavored, but often he loses interest in chews within a short period of time. Not this one!  It was large enough and tasty enough to keep him occupied until he wore himself out and took a nap.

This chew got Bolt's seal of approval, but it takes a little more to win me over. First and foremost, I made sure that it didn't come from China, as I don't like to take chances with my pet's health. I think that's one of the worst things about the Chinese pet treat problems; thousands of pets have gotten sick, and so many have died, yet no one knows the cause. I like a company that doesn't deal with China and that has a thorough tracking process.

Of course, Bolt doesn't care about any of that. He trusts me to make sure that his treats are safe and tasty. I know he enjoyed the many days of noshing on his Rawhide Brand Beef Hide Dog Chew, and it's on my preferred list of doggy treats that can stand up to his powerful little jaws.
