Six Thanksgivukkah Gifts For Your Dog

This year is a rare occurrence. Hanukkah, which normally falls in December, starts its first full day on Thanksgiving in 2013. The last time this happened was in 1888, and the two holidays won't come this close again until 2070, when the first night of Hanukkah will align with Turkey Day.

Pets love to celebrate the holidays with their humans, and this year you can find cute toys and other items themed to both Thanksgiving and Hanukkah. Check out the examples in the list below, all of which came from Petco. Bolt enjoyed trying out all the goodies that the store so kindly provided for his review.

There are plenty of Christmas toys, costumes, and other fun dog products available, too, but I enjoy starting early and celebrating the entire season. It's easy to do that with the wide range of seasonal dog items that cover all the holidays.

Kosher Bone

This was Bolt's favorite item out of everything on this list. Yes, it seems a bit big for his mouth, but that doesn't stop him from proudly carrying his kosher bone around. He loves to play fetch with it, and he knows how to use the squeaker, which he does with great relish.

Gelt Bag

Gelt is, of course, a traditional Hanukkah gift, but chocolate is toxic to dogs so they can't have a sample. Fear not, as your pooch can have his very own safe gelt bag this year.

This is a nice, soft squeaky toy suitable for dogs who like to fetch, tug, and chew. Bolt did all three with it when he tested it out.

Hanukkah Critter

I think this is a bear, or possibly a cat. If not, then it's some sort of cute little Hanukkah-themed animal that your dog will enjoy. It's soft and cuddly, but more destructive or energetic pups can also chase and chew it.

Hanukkah Bandanna

This festive Hanukkah bandana is reversible, with "Oy vey" on one side and "Happy Hanukkah" on the other. It's made out of durable sweater material and looks adorable on dogs.

Thanksgiving Turkey

What would Thanksgiving be without turkey? This cute stuffed toy is the perfect early gift for your dog. It will help keep him occupied while everyone's gathered around the dinner table enjoying the real thing.

Okay, in reality he'll probably ignore the toy at dinner time in favor of begging for table scraps, but it's still adorable, and he'll like playing with it later.

Thanksgiving Ham

Bolt is a little ham himself, and he loved playing with this big hunk of ham in toy form. After all, not everyone goes for turkey on Thanksgiving.

The stuffed toy was a little big for him, but that didn't stop him from engaging in a lively game of fetch with it.

Just a Small Sampling

This is just a small sampling of the Thanksgiving and Hanukkah toys and other items available for dogs. In most households, pets are truly members of the family, and the ever-expanding product lines tie right into this trend. They let your pet join in on every holiday celebration.
