How to Change a Supply Line in a Sink

    • 1). Turn off the water supply valve for the supply line you are changing by turning it counterclockwise. The valve will be located under the sink, and will either be attached to a pipe coming out of the wall or attached to a pipe coming out of the floor. The exact placement varies, depending on how the plumbing in your home was set up.

    • 2). Place a small bucket near the supply line you are changing.

    • 3). Attach a crescent wrench to the nut on the supply line at the bottom near the shut-off valve, and adjust the wrench so it fits snugly around the bolt.

    • 4). Turn the crescent wrench counterclockwise until the nut is completely loose.

    • 5). Pull the supply line off the water supply valve, and quickly point the bottom of the line into the bucket to catch any water.

    • 6). Remove the top of the supply line that is attached to the underside of the faucet by loosening the bolt that holds it in place. The style of the bolt on the top of the supply line varies, and there may be either a large plastic bolt with large ridges or a metal bolt. If it is a plastic bolt, unscrew it by hand. If it is a metal bolt, use the crescent wrench to loosen and detach it.

    • 7). Apply Teflon tape to the pipe threading on the faucet and coming out of the water supply valve.

    • 8). Attach the supply line to the underside of the faucet and tighten it.

    • 9). Attach the supply line to the water supply valve and tighten it.

    • 10

Turn on the water supply valve slowly and check for any leaks. If any water leaks out, turn off the valve and tighten the bolt where the leak is present, and then turn the water back on and check for leaks.

Use a towel to wipe up any water that has dripped out under the sink during the repair.
