- 1). Use a dremel to remove the top of the rivet. The top will appear flat rather than rounded.
- 2). Put an indention into the middle of the rivet. Once the head of the rivet is chiseled, put an indention in the middle of the rivet to prepare for removal. This can be done with a center punch.
- 3). Get a drill bit to drill into the center of the rivet. The rivet should fall out. If it doesn't then use a drift punch to hit the rivet gently. If you hit it too hard, then the shaft of the rivet will expand more and damage the area it is in. If this happens, a larger rivet will need to be used to replace it.
- 4). Drill into the rivet. Sometimes the rivet is so old that it is difficult to take out. If after the first three steps the rivet doesn't fall out or move, then drill out the remaining parts of the rivet.
- 5). Put in another rivet. If the rivet becomes enlarged while tapping on it, then use a larger rivet to replace it since the hole will be bigger. Use a rivet gun to put a new rivet in.
