How do I Remove the End of a Countertop?

    • 1). Place the countertop face down on a pair of sawhorses.

    • 2). Measure the length of the countertop with a measuring tape. Decide how much of the countertop you are going to remove. Use the measuring tape to measure and mark the line where you will be removing the end of the countertop. Mark the line on both sides of the countertop with a pencil and a straightedge.

    • 3). Place a strip of clear tape along the mark on the decorative laminate edge of the countertop. The tape will help to keep the laminate edge from chipping as it is cut. If you cutting a wooden butcher block countertop skip the tape.

    • 4). Cut the countertop with a circular saw. Cut from the back side of the countertop to help prevent chipping the laminate edge or splintering the wood of the countertop . Work slowly as you cut along the marked line.

    • 5). Smooth the edge of the countertop with 220 grit sandpaper.
