1983 Honda 250R ATC Specifications

      The 250R ATC is a three-wheel, all-terrain vehicle produced by Honda from 1981 until 1986. The production of the 250R ATC, however, stopped in 1986 because of regulations from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The regulation banned major production of three-wheelers for 10 years -- because of their high accident rate. Even though the ban stopped in 1997, no major production has started on three-wheeled ATVs. In 1983, The MSRP for a new Honda 250R was approximately $2,000.

    • The 1983 Honda 250R ATC uses a two-stroke, air-cooled engine. Total engine is displacement 15-cubic inches. The bore by stroke ratio is 70 by 64.4 mm and the compression ratio is 6.6:1. The PSI compression is 142 to 170. The transmission is a five-speed manual. This three-wheeler is available only as a kick start and is chain driven. The front suspension uses a hydraulic telescoping fork system while the rear suspension uses a single mono-shock. The suspension has 6.7 inches of travel in the front and 4.3 inches of travel in the back. The front and rear brakes are both hydraulic disc operated.

    • The seat height of the 1983 Honda 250R ATC is approximately 29 inches while the wheelbase measures at 47 inches. Ground clearance for this ATV is 4.8 inches. The 250R weights approximately 300 lbs. The dimensions of the front tire is 23.5 x 8 x 11 inches while the rear tires are 22 x 11 x 8 inches. The front tire was designed for precise, low level, turning and the wheels are made with a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy. The tires are also made of a high flotation material and the 250R ATC uses a primary kick start so you do not have to put this three wheeler into neutral to start it. The gear driven crankshaft counter balancer reduces vibration for the rider.

    Appearance

    • The 1983 250R ATC has a 60-watt headlight and a strong double-cradle chassis frame. The tires also feature a large tread made to enhance traction capabilities in mud and other loose or wet terrain. The ATC 250R was sold primarily in red with either a black seat or blue seat cover. Some models were sold with white front and rear fenders.
