How to Paint a Camper Top

    • 1). Lay the two planks of plywood side by side on the ground.

    • 2). Position two sawhorses parallel to one another sufficiently spaced to support the front of your camper top.

    • 3). Position two sawhorses parallel to one another sufficiently spaced to support the back of your camper top.

    • 4). Place the last two sawhorses in front of the back sawhorses, parallel to one another and sufficiently spaced to support the front of your camper top.

    • 5). Set the camper top on the sawhorses.

    • 6). Wash the camper top using soapy water and a lint-free cloth.

    • 7). Dry the camper top with a clean, lint-free cloth. Use cotton swabs to dry crevices or between vent louvres (slots within the vent).

    • 8). Apply a one-half inch margin of blue masking tape (painter's tape) to windowsills, antennae or other fixtures on the camper top's exterior. Ensure that the tape fits flush against all borders without extending onto surfaces that need painting.

    • 9). Spray paint the camper in 12-to-16-inch back-and-forth strokes, using the metallic paint and the spray gun. Ensure that the camper's surface receives enough paint without beading. Allow the paint to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

    • 10

Touch up bare spots or thin patches using the metallic paint and the spray gun, allowing the touch up 24 to 48 hours drying time.

    • 11

      Remove the blue masking tape.
