How to Set Up Jon Boats for Sale

    • 1). Haul the Jon boat out of the water and keep it on a trailer. Wash the boat to clean it up and give it curbside appeal. Wax it using an auto wax and chamois. Take several pictures of the boat from all sides and under the hull. Be sure to photograph the engine, trolling mounts, rod holders and swivels on the captain's chairs.

    • 2). Direct an Internet browser to pricing websites such as NADA or Kelley Blue Book. Go to the boat section and enter the year, condition and engine on the boat to get an approximate value of the boat.

    • 3). Compose an ad with the boat's year, engine, trolling motor and overall condition. Place this ad on free classified websites for your area. Examples include Craigslist. If you wish to open the sale to a larger area, place the ad on online auction sites such as eBay.

    • 4). Include contact information so potential buyers may contact you. Be safe. Include an email, but do not leave addresses or home phone numbers in the online ads.

    • 5). Place for sale signs on the Jon boat while it is on the trailer to attract drive-by buyers. Use local newspaper classifieds to offer the boat for sale.
