After staying for a year or so without any signs of a baby, most couples form the opinion that one of them may be infertile, not realizing that for a woman to get pregnant, certain conditions have to be right.
However, if they have been tested and either of them confirmed to be infertile, remedies for infertility are available.
There are varied causes of infertility in both women and men.
These include: In Men • Current illness - Various diseases and illnesses negatively affect men's' line of reproduction.
Such illnesses can affect the production of sperms and make the same low quality, incapable of impregnating a woman.
• Medical history - If a man has had a long history of infections with such diseases as mumps and sexually transmitted diseases, the possibility of being infertile is very high.
• Occupation - Certain occupations are a major cause of infertility.
Sperms are easily destroyed by exposure to heat and if a man spends most of the day in an environment where his testis are exposed to heat, chances of infertility become very high.
• Toxins - Chances of infertility increase when a man consumes drugs and drinks containing toxic substances.
Men who smoke cigarettes and alcohol are particularly at high risk.
• Ejaculatory problems - For varied reasons, some men cannot ejaculate during sexual intercourse.
If they do, the sperms produced do not have the necessary power to flow up a woman's vaginal canal.
In Women • Infections - Current or past infections to a woman's pelvic area can easily lead to infertility.
• Smoking and alcohol consumption - Like in men, cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption results in the accumulation of toxic substances in the body that can easily lead to infertility.
• Gynecological conditions- Ovulation failure due to damage in the fallopian tubes is a major cause of infertility in women.
Fibroids and defects in cervical mucous are other likely causes.
• Age - Age is a major factor in women when it comes to infertility.
As a woman's age increases, so her fertility decreases.
The increasing age can also make natural fertility remedies ineffective.
Newly married couples should give themselves up to three years for pregnancy to occur rather than start after a year of trying to have a baby.
Self-medication and advice of un-professionals should be avoided at all costs because such may render remedies for infertility that could solve the existing cause of infertility ineffective.
Some of the remedies for infertility include: • Intrauterine Insemination - This is applied to address such problems as a woman's cervical mucous thickening that can cause infertility in a woman, premature ejaculation in men and anatomical defects.
• In Vitro Fertilization - Fertilization in a woman takes place in the fallopian tube.
However, there are cases where sperms and a woman's egg cannot meet in the fallopian tube, necessitating the need for in vitro fertilization.
• Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection - This is employed in cases where a man's sperms are of poor quality or the sperm count is very low.
The technique involves a man's single sperm being injected into a woman's egg by the use of a very fine needle.
Apart from the above conventional remedies for infertility, natural fertility remedies are also available.
Natural fertility remedies include diet and herbal preparations.
