- 1). Draw a line around the soda bottle at the point near the top at which it first reaches its maximum width.
- 2). Cut around the line with the utility knife, being careful not to cut yourself. You are left with two pieces: the bottom of the bottle up until the beginning of the curve beneath the neck and the neck of the bottle along with the curve beneath it. If you haven't already done so, remove the cap from the bottle.
- 3). Apply a ring of glue around the outside of the neck piece, at the large end.
- 4). Insert the neck piece into the opening of the bottle piece--with the neck of the bottle facing into the bottle piece, so that the widest point of the neck nestles snugly against the top of the bottle piece--and allow the glue to dry. You will be left with an inward, rounded cone shape pointing into the bottle, culminating in the opening in the neck.
- 5). Prepare a mixture of sugar and water in the mixing bowl.
- 6). Carefully pour the mixture into the bottle so that there is a two to three inch pool in the bottom of the bottle. Place outside in areas of high bug concentration; the sugar water will attract the bugs, causing them to become trapped inside.
