How to Remove Stains With Acid

    • 1). Dab the stain with a white cloth. Using a white cloth assures that the material won't be stained any further since there is no color in the cloth to transfer. Blotting will lift as much liquid as possible so all that remains is the stain.

    • 2). Combine 2 tablespoons of oxalic acid in 2 liters of hot water in the plastic container. Hot water helps the mixture work its way into the stain and remove it. Cold water would only help the stain set, making it more difficult to remove.

    • 3). Soak the sponge in the mixture, and then dab the stained spot gently. Do not soak the stain, and do not let the mixture sit on the stain. Since oxalic acid is corrosive, it could begin to eat through the material.

    • 4). Pour a small amount of hot water onto the stain right after using the mixture. Blot the stain with a dry white cloth to lift up the solution you applied.

Let the spot dry on its own.

    • 5). Vacuum the area once it has dried.
