- 1). Place drop cloths over the floor and any furniture in the room to protect everything from dust and drywall plaster.
- 2). Sand the surface of the ceiling with a pole sander to create a rough surface for proper plaster adhesion. If you have wallpaper installed on the ceiling, wet the wallpaper with a spray bottle of water and scrape the wallpaper off the ceiling with a wallpaper scraper before you sand the ceiling.
- 3). Place a ¼-inch coat of drywall plaster on the ceiling and allow it to set up for approximately 15 minutes.
- 4). Roll over the wet drywall plaster with a lambswool paint roller to add texture to the surface. Do not press very hard. A light touch will add texture and avoid pushing the plaster around the ceiling. As the roller loads up with plaster, replace it with a fresh one. Allow 24 to 48 hours of drying time.
- 5). Apply a coat of latex primer to the wall with a paint roller. Allow 24 hours of drying time.
- 6). Apply a coat of flat or semi-flat latex paint to the ceiling with a paint roller. Allow 24 hours drying time and then add a second coat of latex paint if you can still see the primer under the first coat.
