- Do not grind strawberry tops in your garbage disposal if there are any seeds present. Seeds from fruits and vegetables of any kind should not be placed in a disposal. Seeds can clog your drain and pipes over time.
- Pull off the leaves from the strawberry top and throw them into your garbage can or compost pile before you drop the rest of the top into the garbage disposal. Because a strawberry top without seeds and leaves is not fibrous, it should be safe to grind in your disposal.
- Turn on the hot water as you flush the strawberry tops down your garbage disposal. Hot water helps release food stuck in the pipes. You should always turn on water when running a garbage disposal.
- Start a compost pile in your backyard instead of using your garbage disposal to grind food scraps. You can create rich, organic medium for use in your garden. You will need a plastic bin with a sealable lid. Place scraps of vegetables and fruits into the bin. Over time, the food will decay and turn into a nutrient-rich supplement for your strawberry patch.
