- 1). Unplug the washing machine from the wall or turn it off at the circuit.
- 2). Lift up the control panel. The control panel is the part of the machine that holds all the washing and temperature knobs. Look for screws on the sides of the front of the panel. Remove these and you should be able to lift up the control panel.
- 3). Remove any screws on the cabinet that were hidden by the control panel.
- 4). Remove the agitator. How this is done depends on your washer model. In the majority of washers, the washer is held in place by a bolt. This bolt is concealed by a cap in the top of the agitator. Popping the top of the agitator with the edge of a screwdriver will expose the bolt, which can then be removed with a socket wrench. The agitator can then be pulled straight up and off. Some washers don't have an agitator bolt so the agitator can be pulled straight off.
- 5). Remove the cabinet screws at the back of the washing machine. If the washing machine is against a wall, it will have to be moved back so you can access the rear. Remove the screws with a screwdriver.
- 6). Pull the cabinet off the front of the machine. There may be clips that you have to press down to unlock the cabinet from the frame. These usually will be placed beneath the control panel. Press them in with a screwdriver to unlock the panel. Gently pull the cabinet off the frame.
- 7). Lift up on the tub to remove it from the agitator shaft.
