- 1). Wait until the hopper is totally empty and the coal stove is completely cool before you begin cleaning any part of the unit.
- 2). Open the hopper door and insert the hose of a shop vacuum into the hopper. Turn on the shop vacuum and vacuum the bottom and sides of the hopper interior. This will remove coal dust and any ashes that have migrated up into the hopper.
- 3). Remove the shop vacuum and wipe down the interior of the hopper with a damp cloth. Rinse out the cloth and wipe down the exterior of the hopper lid. Dry the interior and exterior of the hopper with a dry cloth.
- 4). Turn the dry cloth over to a clean side and dampen it with a lubricating oil. Wipe down the hinges on the hopper door with the lubricating oil so they do not become stuck.
