Horse Party Themes

    Movie Night

    • It seems like every year filmmakers bring one or two movies that involve horses as main characters. Be inspired from these movies--and Invite your guests to bring a favorite horse movie along to the celebration. Guests can review the choices and vote on their favorites, or you can simply pick one or two at random. Your guests might even want to trade movies so they can enjoy films they're not familiar with.

    Book Swap

    • From classics like Black Beauty to beloved children's books like Misty of Chicoteague and the Black Stallion novels, there's no shortage of hose-themed literature. Incorporate this literary canon into your next horse party by inviting each guest to bring two or three of their favorite horse books to share. Pile all the books up or arrange them neatly on a bookshelf, then ask everyone at the party to choose a few books to take home. This might naturally turn into a horse-themed book club--because your guests might continue to meet regularly to discuss the books.

    Costume Party

    • Costume parties are always creative and mysterious. Invite your guests to dress up as their favorite horse-themed character. Have guests vote on who has the best costume. Give horse-themed prizes away such as books, movies, posters and collectibles.

    Model Horse Show

    • If your kids and their friends collect model horses, invite them to bring their best horses for a horse show. You can invent categories including most colorful horse, best dressed horse and most realistic model horse. The kids can come up with their own ideas as well. One of the coolest things about collecting model horses is that collectors can buy--or even make--their own tack and outfits for their tiny equines. Holding a model horse show is an excellent way to reward all this hard work.

    Horse Themed Birthday Party

    • A horse-themed birthday party will be a hit with the kids. Parents can create the perfect horsey cake by decorating an ordinary sheet cake with plastic horses, fences and even a cowboy or two. These sets are widely available at discount retailers and toy stores for only a few dollars. Parents can also plan exciting activities for the kids--including stick horse races and pin the tail on the donkey. Horse-themed decorations can complete the motif--with horse-accented plates, cups and napkins.
