Tips for Surviving Disney World in the Summer

Summer is the opportune time for many families to visit Disney World.
This is because children are out of school, and there would be no interruption to the kids education.
Some of us are teachers or school employees who work themselves.
For others from the colder Northern climates it is difficult to travel in the winter.
For whatever your reason, here are some special considerations you should take when you visit Disney in the summer.
The following are some tips for doing so.
1) Plan and research - Just because you are going in the summer months does not mean that you have to spend hours standing in line.
Check out opening and closing times.
Arrive when the park opens and do the popular rides first.
Get FastPass for rides that have long lines already.
FastPass is a piece of paper which tells you what me to come back to the ride to surpass the long line and enter the FastPass line which is usually 15-20 minutes long on crowded days.
You need a park ticket to get one, and there are FastPass machines located next to or near rides that provide one.
If you can't do first thing try the other end later at night after all the families with small kids leave.
2) Sunblock and hat - wear a good sunblock that stay on when wet or you perspire.
The Florida sun is strong and you can burn quickly.
Take it from experience you do not want to have sun poisoning in Florida in the summer, that will definitely ruin a vacation.
Wear a hat to shield your face and eyes.
Sunglasses are a good thing during the day.
3) Keep cool by drinking lots of fluids, especially water.
We freeze water bottles and wet face cloth to use in the parks, and pack in our bags.
If you want to save money buy a spritzer fan at Walmart or other store to bring with you.
We will use the water bubblers to fill them up and ask the street vendors for ice to put in it.
Do not use the ice from the street vendors to drink.
They ice they use to keep soda cans and bottles cold is not potable.
The ice they use in drinks is...
this is the ice they put the cans into to keep them cold.
You can also buy a Disney Spritzer fan for over $10.
We use the frozen face clothes for the back of our necks.
We put them in a little insulated bag in zip-lock baggies 4) Take breaks often.
Find a shady place to rest for 10 - 15 minutes after you have been standing for a while.
Have your drink, re-group and then go to the next thing a little refreshed.
In the afternoon when the heat is the worst and tempers tend to flare, head to your resort pool or the water parks.
The pools are free and you would be surprised that they won't be as crowded as you might have thought.
5) Wear a broken in good pair of shoes or sneakers.
Do not wear a new shoe, as your feet will have blisters by the end of the day.
My recommendation would be a fairly new but used pair of sneakers, with a good pair of socks.
I tend to get blisters even with good sneakers and I found wearing socks geared for diabetics did the trick.
Bring two pairs of sneakers in the summer.
It tends to downpour every afternoon especially in August in Orlando, and no one likes walking all day in wet sneakers.
Flips flops for all day is a no-no my stubborn 15 year old daughter can attest to that, and she lives in them.
6) Dress appropriately.
Light colors, shorts, sundresses, tank tops, t-shirts etc.
Dark colors, long pants and heavy clothes will tire you out due to the heat quicker.
Keep it light and airy, to cool you off.
As mentioned before a hat and sunglasses can help shade your face and eyes.
7) Disney Travel Agents won't cost you a cent, use one.
They get paid directly from Disney so no matter what you choose you are out nothing.
Most times those travel agents know just about everything there is to know about Disney.
They can answer questions, share their thoughts on different restaurants and suggest all kinds of things you would have never thought of.
Hope these help you planning your summer Disney World vacation, and make your vacation more enjoyable.
Remember, Disney is a place where your dreams come true and you want to experience all of it, t the best of your ability.
Enjoy!
