How to Use Grow Trays

    • 1). Read instructions provided on the back of your seed packet. Every seed packet is different and some species of plants or herbs will require different amounts of sunlight and water. Combine only those seeds in the same grow tray that have the same water and sunlight requirements. Purchase additional grow trays for each type of seed requirements.

    • 2). Place your peat pots in the bottom portion of the grow tray. The open cavity of the peat pots should be facing upward.

    • 3). Mix potting soil and just enough warm water to moisten the mix in a large bowl. You will need enough moistened potting soil to fill all of your peat pots.

    • 4). Fill peat pots three-fourths full with the moistened potting soil. Poke a hole into the center of each peat pot with your index finger. The hole should not be deeper than half way into the peat pot.

    • 5). Add three to four of the same seeds to each peat pot hole. Space out the seeds so that they are not overcrowded.

    • 6). Cover your seeds with the remaining moist potting soil. Tap the soil down gently so that it is formed, but not compacted.

    • 7). Write down the name of each seed on your sticks and place them in the peat pot for identification. Write the date you have planted them so that you can time when they are expected to bud. Spray the top of your peat pots with water using a spray bottle. Replace the clear plastic lead on the grow tray.

    • 8). Place your grow tray in a warm room. The tray should be placed in direct or indirect sunlight depending on the amount of sunlight your seeds require. This information can be found on the back of your seed packaging.

    • 9). Keep the clear plastic lid in place until your seeds begin to germinate. Germination means you will see a small sprout coming out from under the soil. Once germinating, prop the clear plastic lid of your grow tray to allow fresh air into the tray. Move your grow tray to a sunny area until you are ready to move them outdoors or repot them.
