How to Unclog Garbage Disposal Plumbing

    • 1). Run water until the garbage disposal fills with water and water rises into the sink.

    • 2). Use a plunger to try to force the blockage through the plumbing. If the plumbing uses a T-fitting, you may be able to push the blockage past the restricted area in the fitting. If this doesn't work, continue to the next step.

    • 3). Access the plumbing exiting the garbage disposal. It either goes to a T-fitting on the adjacent sink's drain or to a U-shaped trap leading to the house drain plumbing.

    • 4). Use a pipe wrench to remove the U-shaped trap or the connection to the T-fitting under the other sink. Place the bucket or dish pan under the plumbing to catch any water that pours out.

    • 5). Clean the blocking material from the U-shaped trap or the T-fitting.

    • 6). Reassemble the plumbing and run water to test for leaks or other blockages.
