How to Use the Shampoo Attachment on a Kirby Vacuum

    • 1). Thoroughly vacuum the area in all directions. Vacuum two or three times as much as normal.

    • 2). Slide the brush roll into the slots on the tray. Each side of the brush roll is sized differently, so there is no way to do it the wrong way.

    • 3). Attach the shield over the brush roll, with the rubber belt sticking out.

    • 4). Slide the shampoo nozzle over the back end of the tray, directly above the brush roll and shield.

    • 5). Turn the knob on the shampoo nozzle so that the red arrows match up. This will cause the nozzle's inner knob hook mechanism to engage with the rubber belt sticking up out of the shield.

    • 6). Press down on the Kirby's elevation adjustment lever to make the Kirby stand up as high as it can go.

    • 7). Slide the shampoo nozzle unit onto the front of the Kirby and lock it into place by twisting the knob on the nozzle clockwise so that the two green arrows match up.

    • 8). Make sure the Kirby shampoo tank is equipped with a sponge and a suds screen. They are essential to the shampoo procedure.

    • 9). Remove the cap from the shampoo tank and use it to measure out the Kirby shampoo.

    • 10

Place either one, two or three cap fulls of Kirby liquid shampoo into the shampoo tank. Use more shampoo for larger areas.

    • 11

Fill the shampoo tank with warm water to the first, second or third line, depending on how many cap fulls of shampoo were added.

    • 12

Install the shampoo tank onto the Kirby unit at the same place where the dust bag is installed when using the Kirby as a dry vacuum.

    • 13

Attach one end of the connector hose to the bottom of the shampoo tank, and attach the other end of the hose downward into the top of the tray unit.

    • 14

Lower the Kirby unit down as far as it will go by pressing downward on the second elevation adjustment lever.

    • 15

Turn on the Kirby vacuum and set the tech drive to the "Drive" position by pressing the foot pedal on the back of the Kirby.

    • 16

Slowly open the valve on top of the shampoo tank. Stop opening the valve once a steady stream of soapy solution is coming through the connector hose and into the tray unit.

    • 17

Begin to lay foam down across the carpeted floor by slowly pulling the Kirby vacuum backward. Shampoo in squares of 4 by 10 feet for best results. Allow the foam to stay on the carpet for approximately three minutes.

    • 18

Turn the shampoo valve off to stop the solution from flowing and begin to pick up the foam. Pull the Kirby unit slowly backwards over the foam on the carpet.
