I've read many articles and posts on garlic.
It's no surprise that I consider it among the healthiest things to eat and to have in your kitchen.
But lately, many people and even doctors started making new products and advertisements about garlic's abilities to help lower the cholesterol and to maintain good level of LDL, the bad cholesterol.
I too believed in this, but I have to say that at that time, I didn't do a lot of research about it.
However, in 2007, a prestigious scientific journal made a smashing announcement.
This announcement simply stated that garlic was inefficient against cholesterol and that it's not use to eat garlic to lower your cholesterol.
Here is what the researchers have done: they've given participants with high cholesterol a clove of garlic a day and asked them to eat it with bread.
After some weeks of this trial, they analyzed their cholesterol and found that it was still in the high levels.
This means that garlic is not that efficient against cholesterol.
However, what you should really focus on here is the amount given to the participant and also the way it was consumed.
When you see for example countries where garlic is most consumed, like Greece, Italy and Korea, they won't eat a little clove a day, they will eat more than three and they are going add it in everything imaginable.
The other thing I noticed about this trial is that the participants were asked to chew the garlic.
We all know that garlic has got a strong smell and taste!
This strong taste and smell is just the sulfur compounds in it.
When you chew the garlic, these sulfur compounds are going to interact with the oxygen in the air and are going to oxidize and lose their powers very easily.
This all to show you that a tiny clove a day isn't going to make a huge difference in my opinion.
However, the research is done in a great way and has lots of science backing it up.
So, how do you lower your cholesterol while using garlic?
You do this: you add lemon zest and garlic to your salads; you can use this recipe as a topping or a dressing.
Here is what's amazing about his combination:
Lemon zest is proven to lower cholesterol naturally, and garlic is also proven to help your veins stay cholesterol free and not let cholesterol clog them.
This way, you are going to lower your cholesterol naturally and you are also going to have clean veins and arteries.
You can't go wrong by using this combination as it will make your health better day after day, plus it's very delicious and will add a lot of variety in your diet.
This can look and sound like a terrible tasting thing, but in fact you are going to get addicted, in positive ways, to the taste and you won't bite on broccoli again without having poured some of your dressing on it.
