- 1). Remove the existing 26-inch wheels on the bicycle by either unscrewing the nuts from the bolt or unlatching the quick release on the axle of both wheels. Leave the chain on the bike because as you will need it on the smaller wheels as well.
- 2). Take the 24-inch wheels, which have tubes and tires installed, and push the axle of the wheel into the correct slots in the front and back. The front wheel will be much easier as it does not have gearing or a chain to deal with. Make sure the brakes line up correctly on the flat, inner portion of the new wheel.
- 3). Push the rear wheel into the axle slot, keeping in mind the chain has to be pulled around the gearing on the back wheel. Make sure the chain is lined up properly through the rear derailleur and onto the back wheel so everything spins correctly. Make sure the brakes and brake pads line up correctly on the flat, inner portion of the new wheel.
- 4). Secure both wheels onto the bike frame using either the nuts you removed or by clamping back down on the quick-release axle system.
- 5). Fully inflate the tires once you've finished attaching and securing the wheels on the bicycle.
