- If your Maytag refrigerator has no power, verify that the power cord is plugged directly into a wall outlet and that the cord fits snugly in the outlet. Never plug your refrigerator into an adapter or extension cord. Turn the refrigerator controls to the "On" position, and allow the refrigerator up to 24 hours to cool down when you first install it. Check the outlet with another outlet, and see if the outlet is working properly. Examine your circuit breaker, and reset the breaker if tripped. View your fuses, and replace any fuses that have a burnt look or broken wires. If these solutions don't resolve the problem, open up your refrigerator housing, and examine the compressor and wiring. Replace any broken or brittle wires, and change out the compressor if it's not turning on.
- Always completely close the refrigerator doors, or your refrigerator can be too warm. This also causes condensation and ice crystals to build up inside the refrigerator and freezer. If the doors are not closing, move food packages in the door jamb, and close all bins. Clean the door gaskets if the doors are hard to open. Verify that the refrigerator is level. If not, use shims on the lower end to level it. Your refrigerator normally makes a certain amount of operational noise. If you hear a squealing sound, examine the fan, and replace it if the fan is making the noise. If you hear a rattling on the bottom of the refrigerator, secure the drain pan in place with tape.
- Your Maytag refrigerator icemaker can take up to 24 hours to produce new ice if you just installed the unit or if you used up all of the ice. Turn the icemaker control knob to the "On" position, and keep the doors closed so the freezer can get cold. Turn the water supply valve completely to the "On" position, and connect the water supply line to the refrigerator. Clean the water filter, and unkink the water supply hose if bent. Use a water filter on the supply line if your water has a high mineral content and your ice has a funny taste. Clean the freezer if your ice has an odor, and do not store food items in the ice bin.
- The water dispenser water is warm when you first install the refrigerator or if you use a lot of the water. Verify that the water dispenser is connected to the cold water pipe and not the hot water pipe. Your water dispenser normally drips a couple of drops of water after you use the dispenser. If the water dispenser won't work at all, check that the freezer doors are completely closed and that the water supply line isn't kinked. Use a water pressure gauge, and check the water pressure on your water supply line. If it's below 35 psi, wait until the water pressure returns to normal, or contact your water supply company.
