- 1). Order the proper carburetor rebuild kit for your make and model of small engine. This is easily accomplished by providing the carburetor model number from the side of the unit to a hardware store employee. Disconnect the gas hoses from the carburetor with the pliers and remove the bolts holding the carburetor body to the intake manifold.
- 2). Slide the carburetor and manifold gasket off of the engine, and unscrew the throttle needle housing at the top of the carburetor body.
- 3). Spray carburetor cleaner throughout the entire carburetor unit to loosen up any dirt or grime, then replace all the gaskets.
- 4). Install the manifold gasket on the motor mount and slide the carburetor back into place. Reattach the carburetor with the mounting bolts and slide the fuel hoses back into place on the carburetor nozzles with the pliers.
- 5). Start the engine and adjust the jet set screws to regulate the amount of fuel entering the combustion chamber so that the engine idles smoothly.
