How to Make a Trellis Out of PVC Pipe

    • 1). Decide how big you want the trellis to be. A good size for an average garden is 6 feet long and 4 feet tall.

    • 2). Cut eight pieces of PVC pipe down to 1 foot long. It is important that they are precisely the same length because they will be used to divide up different sections of the trellis. Cut five pieces to 6 feet long.

    • 3). Lay all of the material out on the ground. The 6-foot pieces should run parallel with about 1.5 feet of space between each. Lay the 1-foot pieces along the ends of the long pipes. The pipes should now be in a rectangular formation, which is the basic shape of the trellis.

    • 4). Apply primer to the tip on one end of the bottom 6-foot PVC pipe. Apply primer to the inside of one of the elbow-shaped connectors. They are ready to be glued together. Apply glue to the inside rim of the connector and quickly insert the pipe. Repeat this for the other end of the same pipe.

    • 5). Apply primer to the end of a 1-foot pipe and the other side of the elbow connector already attached to the 6-foot pipe. Glue the two pieces together. Repeat the process at the other end of the pipe.

    • 6). Attach a T-shaped connector piece to the top of one of the 1-foot pipes using the same primer and glue technique. Make sure the point is facing inward. Do the same for the other end of the pipe.

    • 7). Apply primer to both ends of a new 6-foot pipe. Apply glue to one of the ends and quickly stick it in the T-shaped connector. Apply glue to the other end of the pipe and stick it in the T-shaped connector on the opposite side. Two of the 6-foot pipes are now connected through the 1-foot pipes.

    • 8). Repeat the same steps until you reach the final 6-foot pipe.

    • 9). Attach the elbow connectors to the last 6-foot pipe using the same method as in Step 4. The final pipe can now be attached to the rest of the trellis using the same primer and glue technique.

Tie strings tightly from the top pipe to the bottom pipe. Space them out around 1 foot apart. This will give the plants something else to latch on to.
