How to Clean a High Velocity Fan

    • 1). Turn off and unplug your high velocity fan.

    • 2). Position your fan on an old rug, plastic sheeting or drop cloth to catch any dirt that falls off while you clean it.

    • 3). Disassemble the fan. Unlatch or unscrew and remove the front grille. Typically, if your fan has a latch-style design, unlatching the grille involves opening the latches that hold the front and back grille edges together and sliding the front grille up and out of a bracket or tab attached to the back grille. Once you're finished, set the grilles aside. Remove the fan blades if your model allows by following the disassembly instructions in your user's manual, as every model differs.

    • 4). Vacuum the parts---front and back grilles, fan blades and any other parts coated in dust, dirt or debris---with a brush head attachment.

    • 5). Wash the fan parts. Fill two buckets with warm water and add 1 to 2 tbsp. of mild detergent to each. Use one bucket to clean the fan and one to wash dirt intermittently from your microfiber cleaning cloth so that you always have clean, soapy water while washing the parts. Wipe all of the fan parts with the soapy cloth. Each time that dirt and grease coat the cloth, wash it off in the second bucket, swish it in the clean, soapy water in the first bucket and then continue cleaning.

    • 6). Rinse the soapy residue from the parts with a damp cloth and then dry with another soft cloth.

    • 7). Reassemble the parts. Screw the grille into place or slide it into the back grille bracket or tab and close the latches. If your fan has removable blades, reattach them before sliding and locking the front grille in place.

    • 8). Plug in your high velocity fan and turn it on.
