- 1). Check the shutoff valve located next to your furnace. If it is off, set it to the "ON" position. Open your unit's cover panel and check the other shutoff valves. Make sure they are in the "ON" position. Refer to your manual if you are unsure where the shutoff valves are located in your particular Trane furnace model.
- 2). Check the gas valve at the gas company meter. This valve is usually located next to the outdoor gas tank. Contact your gas company to turn on the gas valve if it is off.
- 3). Check the circuit breakers in your home if your unit is not coming on. The circuit breakers are usually inside an electrical panel in the basement, attic or electrical room. If the circuit breakers are in between the "OFF" and "ON" position, they are tripped. To reset them, turn them off and then turn them back on.
- 4). Check the ON/OFF switch next to your furnace and make sure it is in the "ON" position if your vents are not blowing warm air.
- 5). Check the settings on your thermostat if the air is not getting warmer. Make sure your thermostat is set to "heat." Select a temperature setting that is higher than the indoor temperature displayed on your thermostat's screen.
- 6). Remove the cover panel on your furnace and remove the filters if their is no airflow. If the filters are dirty, brush off dirt and debris and reinsert them. If they are damaged, purchase replacement filters from appliance or hardware stores and replace the damaged ones.
- 7). Check for water below your furnace. If the indoor enclosure inside your furnace is cold, your system may be frozen. Turn your thermostat off for one to three hours to see if it will unfreeze. Contact a qualified HVAC technician if your unit is still frozen.
- 8). Check the set point settings on your thermostat if your furnace is running all the time even when you do not want it to run because it could be trying to reach a temperature setting that is higher than it was designed to. Press the "Reset" button on your thermostat to restore the default settings. If your thermostat does not have a reset button, turn it off for a few hours.
