How to Clean Wax on Hardwood Floors

Things You'll Need

Instructions

1

Sweep and vacuum your floors regularly. Many times it is the daily cleaning that will keep your floors looking good. Also, clean up any spills as soon as they happen. The longer a spill has to soak, the more it will penetrate the wood's surface and sealer.
2

Clean tough heel-marks off of your floor using an extra-fine steel wool dipped in wax. Work in a circular motion until the mark is gone.
3

Clean tough food spills and stains with a damp cloth, then rub it completely dry. Take wax on a clean cloth and work it into the area again.
4

Clean tough water spots with an extra-fine steel wool dipped in mineral spirits. Work in circular motions until the spots are gone.
5

Strip the old wax off of the floor every one to two years using mineral spirits or stripper. Many times you will mop the floor with the stripper after vacuuming it clean. Then use floor scrubbers to remove the wax and vacuum up the stripper using a wet/dry vacuum.
6

Reapply the new wax using a cloth (for paste wax) or an applicator (for liquid wax) once the floor is completely dry.
7

Apply a second coat of wax once the first is completely dry.
8

Buff the floor using a clean cloth or a buffing machine.
