How to Troubleshoot a Payne Heat Pump

    • 1). Ensure the system selector switch is set to either "Cool" or "Heat," as required.

    • 2). Check the thermostat settings. Ensure the temperature selected is lower than the room temperature if set to "Cool" and higher than the room temperature if set to "Heat." When the desired room temperature is reached, the system will power down.

    • 3). Inspect the return air filter. A dirty reusable filter can be cleaned. A dirty non-reusable filter must be replaced.

    • 4). Check circuit breakers and fuses. Replace these as required.

    • 5). Check the fins and coils on the outdoor unit. Ensure they are free of dirt and debris, and remove any twigs, branches or other obstructions that may be obstructing the fan blade.
