- 1). Sketch out a medium sized circle to designate the soldier's head using light pencil marks. Divide the head into four equal sections to assist you in drawing the facial features.
- 2). Draw two vertical lines down from the head to represent the basis for the neck. Sketch the basic shoulder structure with rounded lines from the neck, connecting each of the arms in a proportional manner.
- 3). Etch the basic outline of the chest, torso, legs and feet of the soldier to complete the rough draft guidelines.
- 4). Sketch the helmet or hat that the military man is wearing with light pencil strokes until you are confident in the basic shape of the head gear. Draw the helmet or hat halfway above the horizontal guideline you made for the head. Use rigid lines to define the hair, if visible, that sticks out from under the head apparel.
- 5). Draw two proportionally positioned ovals just below the head gear to represent the man's eyes. Draw a small oval to represent the ear that is visible from under the head gear. Chart out the nose in the middle of the two eyes, ensuring that the facial feature is somewhat close to the middle of the head. Complete the facial area by drawing the mouth.
- 6). Sketch a line down the center of the man's shirt to define the button-down design of the shirt. Add small circles on one side of the line to symbolize the buttons. Position any medals or other notable features on the shirt, then add creases to give the clothing a realistic look.
- 7). Etch the weapon the man is holding if necessary. Draw rounded square-like features at the end of each arm to create a rough draft of the person's hands. Add knuckles and fingers to complete the hands.
- 8). Draw any visible belt loops and the belt buckle with small, vertical lines that form around the waist. Add creases to the military man's pants. Draw each of the boots using crossed lines to represent the shoe laces.
- 9). Erase any guidelines that are no longer necessary to draw the soldier.

Trace remaining pencil lines with an ink pen to create a bolder look. Pull the pen over each of the lines in a smooth and consistent manner. Erase any remaining visible lines once the ink has dried.
