How to Remove a Window on a Stucco Wall

    • 1). Remove all interior trim, sheetrock or other casing from the window being removed.

    • 2). Mark a line approximately 2 inches from the exterior perimeter edge of the window frame on each side at each corner. Use a chalk line to connect each of the marks to form a perimeter cutting line around the window.

    • 3). Attach a masonry or carborundum blade to a circular saw and adjust the blade's cutting depth to approximately 1/2 inch.

    • 4). Cut the perimeter cutting line you chalked in Step 2. Make sure you wear eye and breathing protection during all stucco cutting to protect yourself from the fine, abrasive dust generated during the cutting process.

    • 5). Adjust the blade cutting depth to approximately 1 inch and repeat the cutting of the perimeter line. Making incremental-depth cuts through the stucco cement helps expedite the cutting without overworking the saw. Standard three-coat stucco is usually about 1-inch thick.

    • 6). Break and remove the stucco between the frame and the cut line around the full perimeter of the window, using a hammer and cold chisel. Take care not to damage the window frame during the stucco removal. Where the wire lathe within the stucco is still connected, use wire cutters to snip the wire and free the stucco pieces.

    • 7). Extract the window flange nails, using a pry bar or nail puller and hammer. During the nail removal procedure, have an assistant push against the outside of the window to hold it in place.

    • 8). Tilt the freed window outward at the top and pull the window from the opening to complete the window removal.
