Mold Removal From Wood

Things You'll Need

Instructions

1

Vacuum the moldy wood with a soft-brush vacuum cleaner attachment hose to remove any loose mold spores. Empty the vacuum canister or bag outside promptly after cleaning up the wood. A stiff scrub brush may also be used if the vacuum cleaner isn't available. If possible, take the wood item outside to vacuum or brush so you don't release mold spores inside.
2

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add a few squirts of liquid dishwashing soap. Mix up the soap and water with your hands.
3

Dip a soft cloth into the soapy water and wring it out very well. The rag should not be dripping wet.
4

Scrub the molded spots of the wood with the rag and soapy water. Rinse and wring out the rag often.
5

Rinse the wood with a clean rag dampened with plain water. Wipe the wood dry with a clean cloth, then situate a fan pointed at the wood to further speed up drying.
6

Mix 1 gallon of warm water with 4 to 6 tbsp. of trisodium phosphate or washing soda if the mold is still there. Scrub the moldy wood with a clean, well-wrung rag and the cleaning solution until the mold is gone. Rinse the wood with a clean rag and plain water, then wipe it with a clean rag to remove any moisture. Situate a fan directed at the wood to speed up drying.
