Modern Lighting - Modern Chandeliers to Light Up Your Home In Style

Chandeliers are one of the oldest kinds of light fixtures around, dating back to the medieval times when they were used to light castle halls, courtrooms and ballrooms. Back then, they were made of simple blocks of wood and used candles. Today, they use electric light bulbs, which vary in size and number. Not only that, there are plenty of modern chandeliers that have a unique, sophisticated design, making them some of the most innovative modern lighting fixtures available.

Compared to the traditional chandelier which has lights fixed on a circular frame, the modern chandelier is usually a cluster of a dozen or more minimalist pendant lights hanging from a square, rectangular or circular canopy, or just a single rod, in which case, it is described as a linear chandelier. These pendant lights come in different styles. Some are shaped like raindrops while others are in the form of glass globes, forming what is now known as the bubble chandelier, which has both a whimsical and romantic effect, making it ideal for weddings. There are also pendants shaped to look like icicles and some which are called teardrops, which resemble the raindrop pendants but are smaller.

In some cases, these pendant lights all have the same length, while in others, they have different lengths, so that they appear crooked or have an increasing or decreasing pattern of length. Some even have adjustable lengths so you can create different styles and moods. The pendants are usually made of clear glass so they allow light to easily pass through while resembling diamonds but some now use colored glass in various finishes to make them more eye-catching, creating a dazzling rainbow effect.

Some more unique modern chandeliers do not use a canopy. Rather, the pendants all hang together from a single point. Some even have the pendants cascading from a single point, resembling an elegant fountain while others have the lights attached to metal rods that are shaped like vines or branches, spreading them out. There are also chandeliers which have lights that form the shape of a sphere, resembling a disco ball, and some which use drum shades, which can be ideal for modern wooden homes.

Although many modern chandeliers use glass, there are some that use more unique materials. There are those made of crystal, for example, making them more beautiful, and those that use porcelain. Others, still, use seashells, particularly the round and thin capiz shells found mostly in the pacific while the most elaborate and expensive ones use real gems, even real diamonds.

If you want a modern lighting fixture, then that will not only light up your home in the literal sense but also make it sparkle with more style, you might want to consider purchasing a modern chandelier. Because there are many types and styles to choose from, you are sure to find one that suits your home just right, and if you're having a hard time, you can always just have one custom made to meet your exact needs.
