- Always ask the price right away. Lower price does not necessarily mean lack of service. Many security companies have higher prices because they advertise a lot and they need money to pay for all of those advertisements. That money usually comes out of the customer's pocket at the higher rate they are paying.
- Ask how many customers that the company has per monitoring station. The more customers that a security company has for every monitoring station they have the less each individual home or business is protected.
- Find out the average response time on an alarm. Some companies brag that they respond to an alarm within two or three minutes. Two or three minutes gives a burglar a lot of time to steal a lot of things or even hurt somebody. Try to find an alarm company that has an average response time of less than a minute.
- Check out the company on the Better Business Bureau. If a security company has a lot of complaints with the Better Business Bureau than that may not be a company that you want protecting your home and/or business.
- If the security company is putting in new equipment find out how long they warranty that equipment. You don't want to find yourself in a situation where you have equipment breaking soon after you buy it and you have to replace it on your own.
- Make sure they have a local office. It is not going to be advantageous to be protected by a security company that is out of state.
- Make sure you like the sales representative you deal with. If the rep you deal with is unreliable or unpleasant what do you think it is going to be like dealing with that company for the length of your contract?
- Find out if there is a contract. It is a fact that all security companies require some kind of contract. It is also a fact that only some security sales reps actually let the customer know this. Some will hide it in the fine print and never let you know until you're already in the contract. Always ask the question.
- Ask if they do a credit check. This is another thing that some security reps will hide in the fine print and not let you know.
- Ask if they will give you a discount if you refer more clients to them. This is an ultimate win-win for the company and the customer. All companies want referrals. Don't sign on with a company that will not reward you for giving them.
