The Acura 2004 RL, a mid-class sedan, has a reputation for reliability. Typically, the car will not suffer from frequent oil leaks as long as you get regular oil changes and the occasional tune-up. However, like all vehicles, the RL occasionally suffers from problems such as oil leaks. If you lack knowledge of cars, take your leaking vehicle to a mechanic. - The 2004 Acura RL uses a Denso oil filter. Like most filters, this filter can become loose, wear out or become improperly aligned. All these conditions cause oil leakage. An improperly installed filter can also cause leakage. Most mechanics should be able to install the Acura 2004 oil filter without a problem.
- A cap covers the hole in the 2004 Acura RL's engine above the spot where you put oil. This cap sometimes breaks or becomes loose. On improperly maintained cars, the cap may even go missing. These problems can cause the oil to spill or leak.
- The 2004 Acura RL has an oil pan on the underside of the car. Incorrect threading on this pan's plug can cause a leak. You can adjust the plug so it fits correctly by unscrewing it and tightening it. Occasionally, the oil plug wears out and requires replacement.
- The valve cover gasket of the 2004 Acura RL, made from silicone, joins metal parts of the engine to prevent leakage. The valve bolts to the engine. Oil pumps from the bottom of the engine to the top. When engine oil breaks down over time, it creates caked-on deposits. To fix oil leaks from valve cover gasket problems, change the gasket.
