Video: Kids' Art Project Using Window Panes

Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Patty Fernandez, and I'm an art teacher. Visit my website at PattyFernandezArtist.com. And today, we are going to make window pane art. Now, what I do with the children is I give them a standardized card, and we do a sequence of drawings that have some meaning to each other, like I did just here. And, with glue, I glue down each card. Now, I'm putting this on a base piece of paper of black. Can be any color, really. But, I want to make sure that each one is glued down totally before I add my windowpane paper. So, you want to make sure that this is already stuck down before you get to the window pane part. And, this activity can be done all in one seating. The reason why I use the index cards is because if somebody messes up, which does happen on occasion, you don't have to scrap the whole entire project. You can just replace the one card that got goofed up. So, we've glued, and now I'm ready for my strips. I went ahead and cut my strips. I take my glue, and I just go in between, just like you would for a regular window. Place the strips on top. Now, I do not worry about overlapping the actual pictures, because after these are dry, I'm going to use my scissors and cut my frame a little bit better. But, go ahead and get your strips on. And, this is so much easier than cutting a piece of paper for a frame, because this way it doesn't matter, everything always fits. The problem when you do one big sheet of the children's artwork is, there's a good chance you're going to miss part of the artwork because the kid didn't draw it correctly in the box the way you want it to be, okay? So, go ahead and put your strips on. And, what I like to do is, once I've done this part is, to make sure that it's secure, I put something heavy on top. Okay, so that's it glued down. Now, this one is dry. So, I flip it over, and I cut my ends off. Turn it. Cut. And, I end up with a little frame. So, it does look like windowpanes. Now, subject matter, on some of them I do sequencing. This one is your normal little kid artwork. On this one, I did the seasons - the four seasons. So, anything you use as content is really going to look fabulous. My name is Patty Fernandez. Visit my website at PattyFernandezArtist.com, and I'll see you later.
