- 1). Check the operating system on your computer. Flight Simulator X requires Windows XP service pack 2, Windows Vista or Windows 7. If you are not running one of these operating systems, the installer will freeze.
- 2). Click the "Start" button, then click the "Control Panel" icon. Click on the "Hardware" icon and then click "Device Manager." Click on the "CPU" icon and make sure that you have more than 1 Ghz of processing power. If you do not have 1Ghz of processing, the installation will freeze.
- 3). Click on the "Drives" icon and select your hard drive from the menu. Check the hard drive capacity. The Flight Simulator X game will not run on a hard drive that does not have at least 14 gigabytes (GB) of free space. Clear out at least 14 GB of free space to properly install the game.
- 4). Click on the "Video Card" icon. Check the video card to make sure it is compatible with DirectX 9. If you do not have DirectX 9 installed on your system, download the DirectX 9 software to your computer.
- 5). Look over the Flight Simulator X installation DVDs. If you see any scratches, dust or dirt on the DVDs, clean the DVDs. Local gaming stores will have machines that can take the scratches off the DVDs. Use a dry rag to clean dust or dirt off of the install DVDs.
