Always make sure your door has a peephole to view those who are approaching. Always ask the person to identify themselves, and listen to your instincts. If you do not feel comfortable opening the door, tell the person to return at a better time, when you are not alone. Even if you have a home alarm system installed, it will do you no good if the perpetrator enters the home because they were welcomed inside by the homeowner or family member.
