How do I Build Motorcycle Axle Stands?

    • 1). Cut a piece of 1-inch wide steel pipe or tubing as uprights and then an additional piece 8 inches long as a handle cross-bar. Use a hacksaw for the cutting process.

    • 2). Place the uprights parallel with the cross-bar in between and carefully weld the ends of the latter to the uprights, using a blowtorch.

    • 3). Position one end of the handle in a perpendicular angle to the center of the cross-bar and weld it to the center of the cross-bar, again using your blowtorch.

    • 4). Use the hacksaw to cut two additional pieces of 1-inch wide by 1-foot long steel pipe or tubing. These will be used as the lifting rods. Place the upright and handle flat with the handle's end pointing up. Then, weld each of the new pieces to the other end of the upright.

    • 5). Cut two pieces of 1/8-inch steel plates to serve as the axle supports. Make sure to cut them at a measurement of 2 inches long by an inch and a half wide.

    • 6). Place one of the axles into a vise, making sure to position it so that the inch and a half wide end is up. Cut a "V" shape into it, making it 3/4 of an inch from top to middle with your hacksaw. Do the same thing with the other axle afterward.

    • 7). Position the axle supports on top of the lifting rod with the "V" cuts facing up, ensuring that the supports are directly aligned with the handle uprights. Use the blowtorch to weld the square ends of the supports to the ends of the lifting rod.
