- 1). Have a solid understanding of the California probate process including the court forms, fees and all procedures involved in real estate and personal property liquidation. Executors' aides are often estate-planning attorneys, though many paralegals offer services for reduced fees, making them attractive to potential clients. You don't need to be either as long as you have the proficiency to close an estate.
- 2). Talk to the executor and discuss what her needs are, then determine whether you can help as an executor aide. How you know the executor might be through formal business services marketing; however, you may find yourself in position to reduce the stress imposed on an executor who is a friend or a family member.

Clearly determine what your roles are and what duties the executor will personally maintain. This is imperative to protecting you and the executor under the scrutiny of probate court approval.
